You know if old saying "If I had a dollar for every time"? Well that applies to this situation for sure. I receive a LOT of calls from frantic homeowners after they receive a water bill that is hundreds of dollars higher than normal. 9 out of 10 times it could have been prevented by performing a simple toilet tank dye test. A leaking flapper is the most common failure in a toilet is also the most common cause of a high water bill. I recommend the following test be performed every four to six months. Trust me, it's so simple your kids can do it for; and they would probably love to do it....
Three Step Test to determine if you have a leaky toilet flapper
1- acquire either food coloring or dye tablets
If you determine the your toilet flapper is leaking and need advice or help correcting that... leave a comment and I will reply or contact me directly.
Come visit "Flo" in Asheville this March.
A rare opportunity is coming to Asheville, so pay attention!!
We are participating in the "Asheville Water Is Worth It 2013" water awareness campaign. If you haven't yet heard about it, here's the scoop; Beginning Feb 18th if you are an Asheville resident you should go Fix-A-Leak Week.org and register to pick up a FREE water conservation kit. After registering, beginning March 18th until March 24th, (Fix A Leak Week 2013), you can pick up the kit at one of several locations conveniently scattered throughout Asheville. On March 22nd (World Water Day 2013) there will be an event held at the City of Asheville's Wesley Grant Community Center where you can also pick up the kit. If you plan to get your kit at the Center, you should arrange some time to check out what is happening during the day long event. There will be some pretty cool people, demonstrating ways to use water more efficiently, how to set up cost effective ways to harvest rain water and other water wise things to learn about , including fun things for kids and the whole family. And, "Flo", the Environmental Protection Agency's official Fix a Leak Week SpokesGallon, will be there. It is Flo's first visit to Asheville so stop in to get a picture with the family.
Asheville's local GreenPlumbers will be available to help show you how to identify and fix common leaks in your home and how to install the items provided in the water conservation kit.
This isn't just some cheesy kit will no practical value. The kit contains very useful products including some of my favorite devices; a toilet conversion kit that turns your toilet into a dual flush toilet, a pressure compensated 1.5 gpm mutli-function shower-head and more. There is real value here folks. The dual flush conversion kit alone retails at $35. I sell this to my customers regularly for $25 and they love it! As I understand it, the kit total retail value is well over $50.
A Good Plumber llc is participating, along with PlumbSmart Technologies and Cyclone Plumbing to provide deeply discounted installation services between March 18th and March 30th (the week of & the week after Fix-A-Leak Week). If you want the assistance of one of these licensed GreenPlumbers you can schedule the appointment in advance and have us bring the kit to you rather than pick it up yourself. The kit will include a voucher with contact info all participating local plumbing companies.

I have recently had an opportunity to review and install the most recent Aqus Greywater System model and am very pleased with the new design. The improvements implemented by Sloan Valve Company make installation simpler, the overall footprint & profile is smaller and maintenance is easier.
One of the best outcomes of Sloan having acquired the marketing and distribution rights for the Aqus from it's original manufacturer (Water Saver Technologies) is the lower cost; almost half the cost of the preceding model. Well done Sloan/WaterSaver Tech.
